The Most Important Thing I’ve Learned This Month

As the month of April comes to an end, I can’t help but to sit here and reflect on how this month has really been for me. Despite its downs, everything I’ve experienced has still been a blessing and also taught me one very important lesson:

There are some battles you just have to fight in prayer.

Often times, we think that it’s necessary or better to retaliate or immediately react when someone offends us but when I say “not everything needs or deserves a reaction” that is exactly what I mean. It’s so much easier to say that than it is to just live by it but this month, God allowed me to experience something that was very hurtful and for the first time in my life, I was obedient to His Voice and did not react.

To be a little more specific without going into much detail, I dealt with a racial issue in a way that I have never experienced before in my entire life and it was so disheartening. And as frustrated as I was with the situation, I just kept feeling like I needed to PRAY about it instead of showing my whole and complete tail. It takes a lot to get me out character these days but this right here had me ready to put my paws on somebody! It is so unfair for people to be treated differently due to the color of their skin and it’s not right for certain rules to only apply to certain people due to the color of their skin!

Even though I was feeling how I was feeling and as upset as I was I still kept hearing in my heart that I just needed to pray…stay calm and just pray… so that’s what I did! I prayed and I prayed and I kept praying until I felt like I had sincerely turned the situation over to God. I knew I had to let God fight this one for me because the reaction I had in mind wasn’t going to get me anywhere. Literally. Sometimes, you just gotta step back and let God get them. You have to really trust the fact that He is moving on your behalf, turning the tables in your favor and dealing with the hearts of those who hurt you. And believe me, God has His way of dealing with folks on the level He sees fit for them to be dealt on!! Some people call it Karma. I’ve learned to see it as either “God Ordained or God Allowed”. What you sow is what you will reap period!

One thing is sure though, God may not get you out of a situation, but He will truly give you the strength to get through it. This was not a fun experience. In fact, it was more of a learning and growing thing for me and I thank God for it! Between consistent prayers, lots of talks with God, and keeping a cool head with a clean heart .. I have seen God moving, working behind the scenes of my life and this whole situation.. I’ve watched the tables turn and I’m strongly confident in the fact that He’s not done yet!! In those moments of victory, God reminded me that some battles are simply not my responsibility to fight especially when He just intended for me to watch. Let me tell you something -When God decides to bless you, He will cause situations to come together in YOUR favor.. no matter what other people try to do!! What the enemy meant for evil, God meant it for good and for that alone I am forever grateful!!

All of this turned out to be such a valuable life lesson to me. I now know and see the TRUE benefits of just letting God do the fighting. The battle is always won when you let Him handle it! So with that being said, it was nice to know April 2018 but now I am looking forward to May !!

Hope you all have a blessed day!

  1. I feel you. I agree with what you are trying to say, we have to choose our battles, and not every opinion or judgment should affect how we think of ourselves. We shouldn’t be define by other people’s perception, we shouldn’t be driven by hate and retaliation. What you’re written here is a testament that being quiet and silent is not a sign of being a coward. I am with you on this.
